Five across the Atlantic. . .a sad and disappointing three here. . . . . .Murdoch is (and always has been) a vicious right-wing hack with no intellectual or journalistic credibility. I'm glad at least the English called him out. . .unlike too many of the sheep who live here.

There's a shocker: the Murdoch News Corp. media machine is a powerful propaganda machine and controls politicians in Britain and other English speaking nations. Anyone who has even remotely paid attention to events over the past 20 years or so understands the nature of this media outfit and the lengths they go to exercise their prerogatives. As such, none of this should come as a surprise. Now there's even a dead body too, that of a whistleblower, Sean Hoarn, who threatened Murdoch with incriminating information. In a tabloid media culture like we have now, the ends justify the means. It's all about getting the lead first and feeding the populace with junk news. The goal of course is to foster a political environment where super-rich oligarchs can further consolidate their power away from the prying eyes of a critical press. Murdoch's operations both here in the US and in Britain and Australia involve bribing, threatening, defrauding, misleading and extorting political figu... Read more

Massive news. Sienna Miller took "The News of the World" to court over phone hacking allegations further investigations soon exposed EVERYTHING. Right down to police bribes just to get details. In all honesty should we really be surprised? Journalists have access to everyone's private details on Facebook. They have the right to take your profile pic and publish it in an article if they dig any dirt about you. That's how much power these people have. So to hack phones of public figures accessing their voicemail, private conservations and IM services comes as no surprise. The shocker was when they accessed the phone of Milly Dowler a high profile case of a 13-year-old who was murdered. If there was a low moment that sure was it.

This is big and getting bigger all the time. The turmoil is spreading from the UK to the USA where a big shot in the Wall Street Journal has just resigned.I like the way Murdoch closed one offending newspaper in England, however. Cutting out the offending parts is some of the solution. It is about time that these media elites with their supercilious attitudes are brought into the dock.

Very big and very important story, for a couple of reasons. Most obviously, this is a story of cynicism, expedience and absence of ethics by a huge media conglomerate. It seems clear, even at this early stage, that this is not a few rogue reporters, or an isolated incident, but an endemic problem in the Murdoch empire. Secondly, this should raise questions about the nature of the 24/7 news cycle and the increasingly voyeuristic demands of a public hungry for the most trivial and preferably scandalous details of the private lives of the famous and infamous. Increasingly, "news" has become dominated by entertainment and gossip. One can blame the media looking for a quick and easy fix to fill air time, or one can speculate about keeping the masses sedated with garbage and both are valid points. But let us not forget that mass of the body politic is never so happy as when it delving into the tawdry entrails of a public figure. This is hardly a new phenomenon, and I suspect the cit...
