I love my 5 boys with a passion! They make excellent pets. They do require to be trained and raised properly, otherwise they may develop behavioral issues. ALWAYS! Get your cat spayed/neutered, whether it's an indoor cat or not. It will make your life a lot easier, trust me. People who are having issues with their cat defecating and urinating on the floor: 1.) make sure you have enough litter boxes if you have multiple cats. 2.) Make sure the litter is at LEAST 6 inches deep. Make sure it's a litter they're comfortable with. 3.) Make sure the litterbox itself is something they enjoy. Make sure it's not too small nor too big. 4.) If you've done all these things be sure to take your cat to a vet, because it may be a underlying health issue such as a uti. Cats are excellent for people who are a little more laid back and don't have a lot of time, but still want a companion. Just be sure to supply them with tons of love, affection, and TOYS! P.S.- ADOPT!!!! AND NEVER DECLAW!

as with any pet they take work and proper care. when you hear the stories of finding a large number of cats living in one place there is problems of neglect and feces everywhere. it is unfair to the animal to have them live like that.

I'm not addicted in the sense of living with dozens of them... there are only two cats in our home... but I do love cats. I pet strange cats in the street. I visit cat sanctuaries & play with and take pictures of their residents. I help charitible organizations that help cats as much as I am able. Yes my own cats are spoiled but they totally deserve it. They are just affectionate enough; my cats and I seem to need equal amounts of attention and personal time. They are soft and warm, and their purring is sweet and calming. Their antics make me laugh and their loyalty when I am not feeling well is unswerving. Cats usually treat you the way you treat them and since I always treat them with the kindess and respect they deserve, I've never met a feline I didn't get along with. And just so you know, I'm not the stereotypical lonely old lady... I'm happily married (real men love cats!) and have as many human friends as I need. I just love cats! "If man could be crossed with the cat, it would... Read more

Egyptians used to revere the little buggers as deities. Why? I have no clue whatsoever. Cats don't contribute to the household, at all. Yes, they make fuzzy little companions that are as prone to rubbing up against your leg as they are to scratching it. They can occasionally be entertaining, especially when they're young. After 1 1/2 years, they just pass out for 22 hours a day and essentially become big moving dust balls that you have to feed and that require you to pay vet expenses. The downsides: - Don't do anything when an intruder breaks into your house. They're more likely to rub up against the intruder's leg and get a good petting (or a well earned stomping). - They stink up the house with their little kitty litter shit balls. - They scratch everything up. Even "trained" cat leave scratch marks on furniture. And if you declaw your own cat, you're probably bound to run into some animal rights activist idiot down the line who will accuse you of cruelty. Cats are ove... Read more

I've mentioned my personal cat scale regarding the sanity of women on here before, but it bears repeating. It is based on the number of cats a woman owns. No cats - sane One cat - sane to slightly nutty. Two cats - kooky, but possibly in a fun and enjoyable way Three cats - Obsessive compulsive Four cats - Crazy More than four cats - Crazier than a shithouse rat.

Cats are very independent, self sufficient, and at times very mischievous. Cats are good for people that don't have a lot of time at home, because they are so self sufficient. I personally like cats because they can sense your emotion. Very spiritual, they seem to know when you need them the most.

I have had my cat for 10 years about and she is an awesome pet. Very easy to take care of and if you get a scratching post or two near your furniture, they won't claw it up. Only four stars though because some people really overdo it with cats and their house gets out of control. Of course always spay or neuter your animals.

Not to go against the dog people or anything, as I consider myself an animal person and both cats and dogs are great. As far as pets go for myself, I know cats are about as good as I can get. It is only sort of true that cats are typically less affectionate and couldn't care less about us. One main difference between dogs and cats is that cats remember if they've been wronged, and to regain their trust is difficult after that. Think of cats like women and dogs more like men. However, from my very own personal experience and many other cats I've met, it is entirely possible that cats are just as affectionate and loving as dogs. The easiest way to accomplish that is to find one that's still quite young and give it lots of love and you'll find yourself the most cuddly purring machine there is. Cats don't handle violence or loud noises as well as dogs. Again, think cats are more like women. They are more likely to be traumatized by such experiences, and therefore cats are more suitable fo... Read more

No thanks. I have been around cats my entire life (thanks to my sisters and their successful pleading), and out of the probably ten that were around I could only stand one. And that's because he was outside most of the time. What the Egyptians saw in them is beyond me. But still better than rats or snakes, hence the second star.

I LOVE cats! Yes, fellas, I'm one of "those" women. They're small, affectionate, easily manageable, entertaining, clean, and fairly long lived (my grandmother's oldest is currently 23). I have four- 3 adult females and 1 male kitten. Here's why you should have a cat (assuming you're not allergic): -they groom themselves and never smell (if they're both indoor and shorthair) -they are very loving and affectionate, despite their cold-shoulder reputation -they're easily potty trained and low-maintnence To texasyankee: that is very unusual for a cat to urinate on a counter. Assuming that it is a male, and over 5 months of age, I would suggest that you neuter it immediately. I had a male cat who did the same ALL over the house and quit upon being neutered. Also, changing the litter bag once a week may not be enough for him. It is best to scoop away stool when it is dry, also changing the entire bag on a weekly basis. I've also found that many cats do not like scented or clay litter, ... Read more

They're self-grooming, they use the litter box, they don't stink, and they are not excessively dependent. They're often pretty to look and fun to watch at play. They can be very affectionate, but they are not in-your-face like dogs. Did I say that cats are my favorite pets?

I like cats. The most resistant of any animal to domestic change and that is interesting. All breeds of dogs came from a wolf. Look at the differences there! Cats are probably the closest to the wild of any domestic animal, and probably the closest to the natural state. I have watched the big cats in the zoo for long periods of time and I can see tabby lurking inside the bid ones!

I have always thought that all the Big Cats are very interesting, but I could do completely without domesticated Cats. I really cannot think of one useful thing they do that I could not do myself. (Killing rodents is mentioned here alot, poison and traps perform much better). They dont need us at all either. They are over populating themselves with no help from us. I will never have one in my house. Dont care for their disposition, the hair or the smells that go along with them. And I sure dont need them for company/comfort because they do not provide that.

Good for nothing. If there is one animal that we should have eaten instead of domesticate. Cats are lazy, they poop and pee in your house, and they smell bad. They scratch, and aren't good with kids.

I have had cats as pets all of my life. They made me learn that their is no such thing as a well behaved pet. Cat or Dog they have bad habits and problems just like humans. If they have problems, we have to find the cause and the solution to that problem. Just like kids. Think about it. I am advising people not to get pissed off when your cat soils your precious rug. Stop and think. Is my litterbox clean? Do i have enough litterboxes? Did i switch cat litter brands? Did i bring home another cat causing my current cat to urine mark? Does my cat have health problems? If humans cant think, they should blame themselves for their cats problems. I dont think inmyopinion has much experience in pet ownership. Cats dont smell, and i seen them be great with kids.

Cats are helpful but much more difficult to train than say a dog or a horse, so I rate it at a 3 because they simply do what comes naturally! They MAY catch mice and other rodents, which helps with the garden and house and also the barn, if someone has one!

Cats are wonderful pets. They all have such distinct personalities.I like dogs,too-but you have to have time to take them out for walks and they don't clean themselves like cats ,so you have to wash them or they stink.Cats,on the other hand-are about the cleanest animals.Their saliva is antiseptic, and unless they're ill, they groom themselves frequently. There is nothing like a good cat who curls up on your lap or lies next to you purring.

Cats aren`t really as much help to us as a dog is, but they don`t have to be. They can make us happy by just lying in our lap and purr. What could be nicer than to have a soft, cuddly engine on your lap? Frolicking kittens are one of my greatest pleasures.

My personal encounters with cats have usually been just the way I like them- brief & rare. Although I might not go as far to say that they are evil, I'm not at all comfortable around. They tend to be difficult to approach and distant but I suppose they have their good side as well. From what I understand, they are more independent and easier to take care of then their canine counterparts.

A lot of people prefer dogs to cats because dogs are naturally drawn to people, whereas cats need some work getting to like you. It reminds me of Robert DeNiro in Meet the Parents where he says, Cats make you work for your affection. They don't sell out like dogs do. In other words, between the two, I'd rather HAVE a dog, but I'd rather BE a cat.

The soft cuddle of a good cat makes for a purr-fect companion. Most kitties have a sweet, quiet nature and are easy to care for. Something about petting a fluffy animal who needs you is very nourishing to the soul.

Cats are the most amazing creatures! They will love you unselfishly, provide compassion when you need it and generally always be there. If you take time to watch them you can learn some suprising things - how many cat owners have seen their cat run after something that only the cat can see? They are complex beings and a bit otherworldly.

The people in the various urban areas during the great plague of 1665 made a big mistake when they chose to kill off all the cats (because it was supposedly them carrying the plague) when they were the ones busily trying to kill the rats. Indeed, they're pretty nice to have around too.

Compared to dogs, cats are often like the calmer, quieter and often less noticed child. Relating to them can be somewhat complicated as they sometimes appear to be more aloof and less concerned with their humans. However, if you study them and come to know their feline ways, you will find that they really do care. I had my last cat Megan for 19 years and during that long span of time we became very close. Among other things, she did her level best to provide the entire family with a diet high in protein by constantly bringing us all the birds and rodents we could eat. Well, never mind that we usually responded with gasps and gags followed by mad dashes for paper towels and garbage bags - we still knew she was sincere in her effort to provide for us. My sister told me a story of another cat we had back when we were both still in high school. She was feeling really down one day and was lying down in her room when George, our large gorgeous white Tom cat, walked in, jumped up on the be... Read more

It's been said that you can't own a cat--the cat owns you. That seems to be mostly true from my experience. Some cats don't care much to be friends; from their point of view, the relationship seems to be You feed us, and we'll grace you with our presence, and you should be thankful for it. Though there are a few exceptions, cats are pretty selfish, but nice pets.

Pleasant company, but also serviceable in getting rid of rats. In previous ages (and third world countries) that's a pretty big deal. (See Rat on Magellan's Dangerous Animals list.)
