Bought the player a few weeks ago and it actually came the next day! Was thrilled, at first. I hooked it up this past weekend when I finally got my 50-inch plasma. The first DVD I put in was Wanted. It was fine for the first ten minutes, then the screen went black. I then got a warning on my TV stating "equipment/component could not be found". I turned the machine on/off, started it again, and the same thing happened in the same spot. I tried this 3 or 4 times. I even fast-forwarded to a different chapter and it kept happening. Thinking it was the DVD, I then put in Iron Man, which was great. No stoppages. So I'm wondering, was it the disc or the player. I have read reviews on Amazon and other sites, and it seems it may be a hardware issue with some of the "just released" dvd's. I called Memorex and they said they were working on an upgrade which I would be able to download off their site, put on a flash drive, and transfer to the machine. He said they were suppose to release the upgra... Read more

I just received my player yesterday and have already watched a Blu ray disc and an upscaled disc. I have an older HDTV so I'm running component. Be aware that if you want any type of HD connection you will need to buy wires. The ones that come with this are only for SDTV. That being said it looks great on my 1080i tv. I also have expereinced a problem like one of the reviewers stated. I watched iron man with no problems however when I tried to watch the latest futurama movie I receive a message stating I need to do an upgrade. I will call memorex tomorrow but it sounds like they dont have one yet. Had this player been able to update over the internet it would have gotten a 5 star rating however with some BD not even able to play without a patch from the manufacture it makes it very inconveient. User beware, you get what you pay for. Its great for the price but some BD may not play unless memorex sends out a patch.

I have had this player for a week. I was skeptical about the brand but when I popped in my first blu-ray disc and saw HD in unsurpassed clarity, all of my fears dissolved... that is until I rented a new release blu-ray disc and was greeted with a red screen informing me that the disc could not be played on my blu-ray player without a firmware upgrade. I call Memorex and they explain that the blu-ray disc association has changed the formatting of the new disc and all blu-ray players would require a firmware upgrade to play such discs. This player is profile 1.1 and the CS rep dubbed the new format 1.2 (which I cannot find any reference to anywhere else). The rep assured me that a firmware update would be made available by the end of the week but that promise went unfufilled and a email to Memorex prompted a "we have no update currently available" response. So there you have it! Who knows when/if Memorex will provide the necessary update? I bought this anticipating seeing The Dark... Read more

I have to admit I was hesitant about this player. New and very advanced technology from a company that only "brands" their player, doesn't build it? And then I realized that the same is true for many well respected audio and video companies when it comes to DVD and Blu Ray. So instead of going by brand I went by features and found that this one has it all. Of course that was not a guarantee of a well built machine. But well built the Memorex definitely is. And good performing too. Superb picture. Superb sound. It is good looking, too. Truly a Blu Ray bargain. :)

When this was shipped to my house, I only had a regular definition DVD at home to try and was amazed at how great it looked. The upconversion works well! Just to be sure I tried the DVD on on my old player and did not look nearly as sharp. I love the fact that I can put AVI files on a Flash Drive and play them via the USB port in the front. Now I don't have to waste hours burning DVD's! Blu-Ray DVD's look great and load fast but when you start up the unit, you have to wait about 30 seconds for it to 'load' even if the slot is empty. Still trying to figure out what to do with the HD movies (.mkv files) I download.
