I don't really follow hockey, except for a little of the Stanley Cup, and I couldn't name but mabye 4 players. It is extremely hard to follow on TV, but I'll admit it is great in person, even though I don't go to many hockey games. I prefer Basketball and Football over hockey, though.

I had never been able to get into hockey, but I would watch from time to time. Everybody told me if I would go see it live it would make a huge difference. I finally went to an NAHL game a little over a month ago and I have to say they were 100% right. I love it. I like how physical it gets, the speed and skill required, the fact that the players are much closer to the fans even on the bench. It may be the most exciting live sports experience out there. I've been to two other NAHL games since and I'll be going to my first Stars game in a couple of weeks. I have to admit I'm still catching on to the rules, but it hasn't lessened the experience so far.

Great live, but a little harder to follow on tv.  We have a pretty good minor league team here but I haven't been to a game in awhile.  We also have a really nice ice rink locally that has a lot of youth and adult intramural leagues.  They also have two indoor soccer areas that when the turf is pulled up works for roller derby and inline hockey.

best sport. watching it is great, playing it is even better. it is fast, physical, and requires the most skill to play. it is also the only sport outside of martial arts and boxing were you can fight and won't be suspended. this is true even in the youth leagues. i remember being in some brawls. i am more than likely going to go back to school in the UP on the shores of Lake Superior and will get the CBC. CBC=Hockey Night in Canada with the great Don Cherry. If you don't know who Don Cherry is, go google or youtube him. He is a character.

I love hockey and it is true that the fans will die loyal. It is one of the few sports left that have players that are not all about their sponsers and themselves. You do not see any dances after a goal. A basketball player jumps and puts a ball in a hole and shows off while doing it, and it;s all over commercials the next day. I must admit I don't like the new rules all that much, it does show a a lot more of the talent in the superstars, but it took away a lot of the tough guys as well as physical play. I only wish I was Canadian.

The amount of hockey fans are small compared to other major sports, but it's fans are the most loyal - die hard hockey fans. I will give them this, it is an extremely intense, fast-moving game and is fun to play or watch. You just have to be careful of those guys from Vancouver.

All other sports are slow when they are compared to hockey. It takes talent, and it is a very exciting sport to watch. It is obviously being hurt in a big way right now, but it still remains the best sport in the world. It's clearly a Canadian game, and that's good. Hockey is a great team sport as well.

Hockey is a great Sport that should be more popular than it is. There are a few problems with Hockey that knock it down a star. First is that it's regional. It's a cold-weather sport and that's where the vast majority of it's players come from - cold-weather areas. Hockey is an expensive Sport to play. If you want to play it, you need equipment and a special place to play. This hurts it's following as many would-be fans just cant relate to guys skating on ice chasing a puck. The puck itself can be hard to follow on the ice. Hockey hasnt done a great job of capturing and establishing itself in the USA. If it did, it would be on par with the Big Three Sports in the country. Hockey needs to take a page from the NBA and NFL on how to market and sieze an audience. Hockey is also not very diverse. It's a Sport that's played mostly by whites, meaning minorities who might be fans, dont get into it to make it huge. The Sport itself is great because it's fast, there is (too much) hitting, (too ... The purest and best of team sports. The only sport where 90% of the time is spent actually playing the game, unlike other sports (particularly American football) where most of the time is spent just standing around.

Both Ice Hockey and Field Hockey are excellent spectator sports, especially in the Olympics. Fast-paced and exciting--but lined with strategy. Forget the lockout-happy NHL and enjoy Field Hockey and Ice Hockey every two years in the Olympics. :)

Maybe because I'm a hockey player..but I think this is the a great sport..growing up in michigan.the best times of my life were going around the neighborhood and getting a game of pond hockey on with my friends..we would play from morning and then set up lights when it got dark and keep playing..hockey has that effect on you..Anyone who isn't a hockey fan should take a trip to Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor Michigan in November when the Wolverines play the Spartans from michigan state...Best atmosphere for a sporting event...maybe you'll change your mind about putting a 1 star for a great sport

I'm by no means a hockey (or any other kind of sport) enthusiast. But the few games I have watched (usually a family occasion when our state team is in the finals against some team we hate) have been entertaining. It's always fun when two players get into a fight and start slapping each other around, or when someone hooks someone else with their stick and slams them into a wall. The one downside is it has soccer scoring, which is less intense than football scoring (it's much more difficult to make a huge, dramatic come-from-behind victory).

No other sport compares. When you combine the skill and speed of hockey nothing comes close. This is the most talented sport of all. When you get on the ice and play it you'll realize it. Everyone can run but its a skill to skate. Not to mention its the toughes and roughes sport.

C'mon, this is a great game. There is no better sport to watch in person. (It does suffer on television.) Hockey players aren't the spoiled sultans that exist in the other major sports. Is there any other sport that combines such speed, grace, and danger?

Hockey, is great, with or without fighting. So much adrenaline on the ice. It seems like a lot of you guys posting comments don't realize how much skill is involved in playing hockey. More than that, how much strategy. With my comments you'd think I were Canadian, as all you stereotypical people are implying. But no, I'm from Georgia.

The only interesting part of this soprt is the fighting, but I guess it's good enough for Canadians, (for what that's worth). I mean who wants to sit around watching a game that lasts for hours when there's only 3 or 4 goals scored the entire game? Not me.

We had to play hockey as part of our physical education thing at school (the good old British tradition - blah) Problem was we always had to play this during Autumn and Winter, and as we all know, England isn't exactly warm at that time of the year and we had to wear stupid little skirts and watch our legs go blue. As a sport, I found it ok. Thankfully our games weren't too violent and there was a lot of tactics going on. But its not something I miss.

I'm not a big fan. There's too many games in an NHL season, not to mention the games are too long. We only get three months without hockey games, what's up with that?!? Plus, they don't have overtimes. If they don't have ties in football, basketball, and baseball, then why hockey? Why should swinging punches only allow you 2 minutes in the penalty box but in NFL, MLB, or NBA, it gets you suspended for one game and a monetary fine, not to mention a lot of bad press. Ridiculous!!

the best sport on earth(though i am canadian)you can knock some dudes teeth out with a five foot piece of wood or aluminum and get a four minute penalty, you can punch the crap outta someone and not get suspended, you can skate over someone's jugular vein(ie...clint malarchuck)and not get a penalty, you can score 10 goals in an 82 game season and still make 7 million dollars, you can be five foot seven and still get the better of a goliath that's 6'7",and finally you can be someone who was a nobody until they were in their 40's and still be a hockey icon(ie...don cherry)

Hockey is not a sport about "beating the crap out of each other," though that does arise. More importantly, it is an incredible team sport, where (unlike basketball) one or two "superstars" don't come close to assuring a victory. The presence of mind, coordination, athletic ability, and intelligence required to play this game with success is off the charts. Any one team can beat any other team on a given night, depending on who has their head in the game and which team plays TOGETHER more effectively. The sport maintains spectator interest throughout the entire game. You can shoot me before I'd aquiesce to watch the last 3 minutes of a "foul-em on purpose and hope they miss the free throws" basketball game. Hockey may have a rough reputation, but those of us who know the game realize that it involves an incredible amout of strategy and heart.

THE sport. It involves brains, finesse, speed, and a whole lot of skill. Exciting to watch with not too much scoring (like basketball) and not too little scoring (soccer). Even funner to play. There's not much that makes you feel as alive as playing pick-up hockey in an old arena on a crisp, cold, Canadian night. Its reputation as a sport based on reckless violence is not accurate.

Kinda like smackdown on ice. A bunch of toothless hillbillies skate around like they're big tough men, chasing a little puck and beating the crap out of each other with wooden sticks. I grew up in the white-trashiest trailer park neighborhood in the US, where all my neighbors engaged in domestic violence on a regular basis. So I guess my idea of a good time is not watching even more hicks beat the hell out of each other. If I wanted to watch that, I'd just open up my window blinds, get out a pair of binoculars, and spy on the trailer next door.

What's there not to like (once you understand the rules)? It's got to be one of the funnest sports to watch and a lot of fun to play too. It's one of the fastest paced non-racing sports out there and watching the way some teams can skate and pass at such a speed is just a thing of beauty.
