So hard to leave this phone company! The rates are too high and despite some pleas, the convince you to stay with some added bonuses - that are non-existant. They also have some fees when incoming calls come. My mom hates this company and I equally. PLEASE don't join despite of their walkie-talkie technology. Other phone companies are following soon...

I HATE Nextel. I've been so very happy with Sprint as a network and with my Sanyo handsets for close to eight years. Then disaster struck. I started a new job that required a Nextel phone so that I could utilize the Direct Connect feature. I can not afford a separate personal and work phone so I switch to Nextel and a Motorola phone. The operating system on that phone is so poorly conceived that it's absurd. Has anyone ever heard of a phone that doesn't have a calculator? How about a recent-call log that doesn't tell you the duration of a call or even what time a call was made? And it's so unstable. Multiple times a day the phone will either reboot itself for no reason or worse just freeze up necessitating a battery removal. And the Nextel network is, if anything, worse! Text messages (both incoming and outgoing) will frequently just disappear into thin air only to reappear at 3 o'clock in the morning waking up the intended recipient.

As a nextel customer service rep. I can totally see where you are coming from, all of you. Yes ocasionally there are long wait times--- as with any other provider of customer service, wait times are life, and in fact ive heard that our wait times are fast--- so depends on the customer I guess. Next, yes sometimes transfers are required, and I do apologize that not all of our agents are trained in all of our departments which include, but are not limited too, General nextel care, general sprint care, hybrid care, tech teir one, tech teir two, hybrid tech, Wireless web, data teir 2, sales, acct services and customer finance. There is also our UBP department dealing with sprint and nextel phones on the same acct. so if you are being transfered, its because the agent that you are speaking to doesnt know how to fix your issue, and wants to find someone who can do it properly--- on another note, if you are having coverage issues, you can check the coverage in your area on SPRINT.COM and on t... I will give Nextel a negative star. Their signal always drops calls and they charge way too much. 60.00 bucks for 900 minutes. Their phones are ugly and there customer service is terrible. They will renew your contract whenever you change your plan or phone, leaving you stuck with what you have. Also, they did not inform me of my deposit refund. A friend mentioned his and I had to think about it. I almost forgot, it has been 2 yrs since I received my refund. Then, Nextel tried to say they gave me a refund. I had top go through all my bank sttements. They finally realized that they were wrong. Also, they will bill you additional fees and say that you went over your minutes. I know I didn't use my minutes because my phone was shoved in the kitchen drawer for 3 weeks. i use my house phone to make calls. I am waiting for the itemized bill to prove them wrong again. Beware, stay away from Sprint/Nextel and any contracts. JDipaolo

my nextel phone will not work in my house--as a matter of fact, the only place on my property where it will work is one corner of my driveway. When I told Nextel about this, they said "too bad". It's a company phone, but one of these days I'll have input on another carrier, and I intend to let loose/

Nextel sucks I tried to put my wife's and my phone on a family plan. we also tried to get new phones with the Internet price. Well nextel didn't set up the family plan correctly and we had to pay fro phone upgrades. sent the phones back and asked the operator if I cancelled my service would I be charged a termination fee. operator said no. next bill 400 for termination fees to cancel both of our phones. called to yell at customer support, went all the way to the top (supposedly), the manager said that since a customer service rep said I wouldn't have to pay a termination fee it didn't matter because a representative from accounts can only authorize that type of transaction. so now I am stuck paying for upgrade handset fees and early termination fees. I was with Nextel fro 4 years. I hope every body leaves and they go bankrupt. but that wont happen because they offer great deals to first time customers while old customers have to pay outrageous fees. I would give zero star but cant do i... Read more

Mostly giant phones and terrible signal--what is there to like about this company? My phone drops calls all the time smack in the middle of towns with populations > 40k! If you live in New England, don't roll with nextel no matter what line of B.S. anybody tries to feed you!

We have been with Nextel for 8 years. We tried to upgrade my daughter's phone. The phone is six years old. She was not available for the upgrade price! How long do you have to own your phone before you upgrade? Instead, we found a Nextel retail store willing to sell one at a discounted price. They switched her sim card and now texting doesn't work. We called Nextel and they asked for the serial number of the phone. Of course this was after they asked every possible question to make sure I was authorized. When they asked for the last four digits of my ss#, they insisted that I was giving them the wrong number. Eventually I convinced them of my identity. Anyway, since I am actually speaking to someone in another country, it was just a miscommunication. Again, since they can't speak my native language, they obviously do not understand the serial number that I have repeated 100 times because it still doesn't work. Every time I call, they say we haven't registered the new seria... Read more

Nextel just plain stinks. First off the Nextel Customer Service Representive said that I would be able to get great reception in my area but that was a true lie. I live about 2 miles from the largest city in my county (Pottsville,Pennsylvania) and even at this close range I am loosing my single all the time. With my Cingular phone I always get a strong signal in the area that I live and everywhere else. Second off all Nextel was charging me for the telenave (which I never signed up for) and I also got other nonsense things charged on my bill. The bottom line is that you are much better off going with any other carrier than Nextel.

I did study Marketing and its simple this is the end for this company .. Now I'm telling everyone I know about my experience with nextel .. and everybody knows about how bad is nextel service and how high they charge .. I so happy with my current cell phone provider they are the best when it comes to customer service .. I hope that did help someone thinking about nextel

I have an active Nextel i205 and want to "switch" over to a Nextel i90 phone. When I moved the SIM card, the phone worked, but none of my extensive contacts in my 205 made the transition. Somehow I thought this would occur when the SIM card was moved. Does anyone know why this didn't work? Any ideas how I can get it to work? Thanks.

Charge a $39 upgrade fee for getting a new phone. I was told that there would be no alteration to my plan, I was just buying a new phone, that's all - well I'm magically signed up for a new 2 year term on my phone AND my wife's phone! And the new phone doesn't work about 50% of the time. A call will come in, the phone will ring once and then hang up on the caller. Very poor service, deceptive contracts, expensive compared to other services.

Within the last month Nextel has improved %100. They have changed their rate plans. Now you get unlimited incoming for only $39.99 and you also get unlimited nationwide direct connect. You dont have to pay extra for it!!! The family plans have changed also, for 2 lines it's only $69.99 and you share 800 minutes, unlimited nationwide direct connect and nights at 7pm. It's great!

I've had cell phones from all the providers and NEXTEL is the best of them all. I live in Florida and get coverage in all the major cities and even on the water when I go boating. The signal carries about 5 miles offshore, depending on the location. My friend's Verizon phone cannot get ANY signal even 1/2 mile off shore! I also travel quite extensively and get service in all major cities, in all airports and up and down the Eastern seaboard. Add to that the Direct Connect feature and free incoming service and for $60 a month I have it all. In fact, I "cut the cord" last year and do NOT have a land line phone. My NEXTEL phone IS my land line. Not sure about all the gripes on this site. All I know is NEXTEL is the BEST provider I've had and I would not consider switching to another provider even if they gave me FREE service. Hope this review helps clear up things.

I had nextel a few years ago and only switched because I got a plan through my employer. I did have to pay a 500 dollar deposit, but it was my first flirtation with credit, as I was young. I never remembered any contract and got my deposit back when I left the company about a year later.

Well after at&t; screwed us royally when they made the merge with verizon, we decided we would try out nextel, mainly because of nascar and we wanted to be able to do the fun things that come up. Little questions and voting on drivers, etc. Well, we went and it took them no less than 3 hours to get everything straight. Not a good thing with a 4 yr old there, too. Well we finally get out of there, and a week later, we get a bill for $160 and we have to pay it off in less than 2 weeks! Talk about a warning; I believe they could have warned us the day we were joining it, that the bill would be coming so soon. Not only that, but they charged us when we both thought in the ad it said free hook up for july. We tried to tell them, and they wouldn't budge on the charge. We also had to pay 100 dollar deposit and if any bill is late, we lose that deposit. The other reason we got nextel was because of the walkie talkie feature, only to find out that if we try to connect to his sister, we get an o... Read more

Nextel Cellular Service is horrible in every sense of the word. Poor coverage areas, expensive rate plans, bait and switch deception, fraudulent information, and most of all, they have the worst customer service ever. I have been with them too long but am almost at the end of my contract-oh happy day!

Extremely poor reception and customer service. Actually had a customer service supervisor tell me that he didn't care if I had 30 phones on my account(s), if I didn't like the service to take my business elsewhere, ...I did! Tried to advise corporate about this conversation including offering the employee's name. The woman at the corporate office told me..and I quote....I'm sure you are mistaken. Our employees wouldn't speak to our customers in such a way. If you are unhappy with our service, I agree that you should find a new carrrier that will make you happy. This woman could care less about my complaint and was just as uncaring as the cust serv person. Goodbye Nextel..thank God we don't have to deal with your bad attitudes any longer!

I have been with Nextel for over 5 years and their customer service is a joke! They are rude and say they do not make mistakes. It is impossible to get them to correct their mistake. For the last 6 months they have been carrying over direct connect minutes from my previous bill to my new bill. I have called them over 25 times and they have yet to fix the problem. I would not advise anyone to do business with them.

I think there's a bit of truth in most of the comments posted here. I recently left Nextel because I was tired of paying $70 a month for 500 minutes a month and was lured by compact, attractive, feature laden phones with cheaper contracts. I switched to Cingular and got the 1000 anytime minute plan for $39.99 a month and added the data transfer plan for $7/mo for a grand total of $54 a month with taxes. Although this rate plan is great, I'm having serious problems with the coverage and realize now that I hate my phone. I bought the T637 Sony Ericsson and the Cingular rep I bought the phone from ended up costing me the $70 rebate through what I believe was inefficiency and sleaziness. What I realize now about Nextel was that I had crystal clear reception (nationwide) and that is worth more than anything to me. Nextel called me to woo me back and offered to take $200 off the price of the phone and gave me a great deal on the new service. Unfortunately I'm going to end up eating t... Read more

NexHELL is the worst phone company on the face of the planet. I called customer service and was on the phone with them for over and hour and Talked to 11 different people. They transfered me to Corporate and corporate transfered me back. I HATE nextel if there is anything I wish I never did, Nextel is number one on the list. My phone doesn't work anywhere, even outside. I can't call my own voicemail to retrieve messages ,and my friends keep telling me that some chinese man is on my message. Service is excellent. There are very few places where I do not get a clear, crisp signal. Having unlimited incoming calls is a big help. Text messaging with the i530 is tedious since you have to access the wireless application then go to the text messaging link. Battery life could use improvement. Nationwide Direct Connect at $10.00 extra a month is salt added to the wound of already paying high prices for the phones and rate plans. Kudos to the i530 for being a rugged phone. I've dropped it several times on concrete and asphalt and it still works just fine; I've even spilled a little bit of water on it. It's a bit bulky but it's worth it since it is so rugged. The best, in my opinion, if you own a business with several employees in the field. As for personal wirless service, it leaves less than to be desired. You don't want to have it for a phone, only direct connect. Their phone minutes are very few in a decent plan with no weekend or nighttime minutes offered.

  • by

You cant beat the local or Nationwide Direct Connect that Nextel offers. This will save on your minutes, and you can cut back on all the useless chit chat involved w/ most phone calls anyway. Just make sure when you get your rate plan you go w/ the unlimited Direct Connect minutes. Unfortunately most of the price plans do not come w/ Nationwide Direct Connect. You will have to add it on for an extra ten dollars a month. Their phones have gotten alot smaller in recent months too, no more bricks!

I love Nextel, their customer service people are very nice, but they don't know anything, therefore it takes forever to get a question answered. The phones are very durable, my aunt accidently washed and dried hers and it still works, but dad has dropped his a billion times it still works, they hold up very well. Everyone I know that has one loves it. Minor problems are that the phones are on the larger side(bulky and heavy), and on most phones the connection between the phone and charger is horrible so sometimes it doesnt charge. But other than that I have never had any problems with them.

I've had lot of problems with my Nextel i90 phones. I'm sure glad I have the insurance that Nextel supplies because I have to replace the phone about every sixty days or less with what Nextel calls a "B" (Rebuild) i90 at their company service centers. So far I have had about five "B" rebuild replacement phones. There is no charge for the replacement (Rebuild) phone because of the insurance but it is a hassle to keep going to Nextel. Be very careful with the recharge port on this phone it is very easy to dammage when connecting to a recharger! The problem I have with Nextel's company service repair facility's is they are only available Monday thru Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. They really should have Saturday service hours for better customer service. Not everyone can make it to the Nextel service center during regular working hours. Overall Nextel does a pretty good job but they really need to do a better job inpecting their REBUILT-"B" phones.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced!!! If you ask a question online, they make you call. Once you call, expect to be transferred several times and hold for 10-20 minutes or longer. If you are lucky enough to talk to someone, they give you bad information! Needless to say, I am stuck with my contract for an extra two months because of bad info given to me by a rep regarding "Standby" mode on my account. The service is "okay" but very expensive for what you get. You will get a lot more bells & whistles with other services at no cost where Nextel will nickel & dime you...

The service and coverage is terrible. I would like to know what state the people who rated it good or great live in. I doubt if they live in Southern California. There are so many holes in Nextel's coverage in this area that the phone is useless in some areas. If you call to let them know about the poor service they always have excuses but they never fix the problems.

  • by

    Wed Mar 05 2003

Nextel has three major problems. The first is terrible customer service. They don't care about you or how much time you spend waiting and being transferred around. Second, Motorola is producing some junk phones. I've had nothing but trouble from both my i1000 and my i90c. My i1000 would lose connection between the battery and phone. The i90 has a very weak connection between the phone and the charger. Nextel will do nothing to fix either of these problems. Third, Nextels rate plans are the highest around. Nextels only advantage is the direct connect, but the bad outweighs the good. I'm switching as soon as number portability happens.

They state that their service covers all of NJ and yet from month one, we were billed long distance while being inside the calling area and my wife had to call them every month since then until they told us that that was the way it was going to be unless we added long distance to the plan. ALSO, NUMEROUS dead areas and dropped calls in the middle of a conversation. Customer service is terrible as well. THANK THE LORD this is only a one year contract. They want to charge us 200 bux to end our contract (so we could find better serivce) depsite knowing how we feel about their serivce. 3 other family members are also very unhappy with this provider. They actually had the gall to blame the problems on the company that sold us the service as if they have no control over what gets provided!

NexTel is the worst at service. First it was through their store that my identity information was stolen. They continue by sending products to the unknown individual and sending me the bill. The total is just over $2500.00 now and shows no signs of stopping. They just don't seem to care. They do not have any interest in catching the thieves, instead they reward them with still more products. If you do not need the point to point, walkie-talkie feature, AVOID nextel. They just don't give a rat's ass about taking care of the customer.
